EARLY LIFE
Audrey Faith Perry was born September 21st, 1967 in Jackson, Mississippi. She was adopted as an infant by Ted and Edna Perry. Hill was raised with two older brothers in Star, Mississippi, which is 25 miles outside of Jackson. Her family was Baptist and Hill’s first singing experience was in their church. When she was 17, she formed a country band that played at county fairs and rodeos. After high school, she spent one year at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi. She continued singing throughout this time and even performed gigs at prisons. When Hill was 19, she quit school and moved to Nashville, TN to pursue her music career. Hill worked as a secretary at a music publishing firm, but eventually landed a job packaging fan merchandise for Reba McEntire. In 1988, Hill married the songwriter and music executive Daniel Hill. She began singing back-up for Gary Burr in the Bluebird Café. A Warner Bros. Records scout was in the audience and after realizing Hill’s talent, decided to sign her with a recording contract. Once her music career took off, her marriage to Daniel Hill became strained. They divorced in 1994.
PROFESSIONAL CAREER
Take Me as I Am (1993) was Hill’s debut album. The song “Wild One” reached number one for four consecutive weeks. The album had much success, selling a total of 3 million copies. In spring 1996, Hill went on tour with Tim McGraw. They were both in separate relationships at the time, but eventually ended things so that they could be together. They married October 6th, 1996. Soon after, they began a family and Hill took a break from singing to raise their three daughters.
She reentered the music industry in 1998 with the release of Faith. This album took a different approach and Hill began to crossover into the pop music genre. This album had much success in both the country and pop genres, that she continued producing music that had a crossover effect. Her songs topped charts and Hill quickly became a music idol winning multiple Grammy’s and other awards. She also performed many duets with husband, Tim McGraw.
In 2005, Hill returned to her country roots with the release of the album Fireflies. The CD debuted on top of the Billboard Country and all genre album charts. She became one of a few artists to have three consecutive albums debut at number one on both charts. More recently, Faith Hill became the voice for the introduction theme for the NFL Sunday Night Football. She sang this for approximately 7 years, ending on April 15th, 2013.
Hill has also explored the realms of acting, fragrance making, and philanthropy. Her and Tim McGraw were heavily involved in the clean-up efforts and raising money for Hurricane Katrina that hit Louisiana in 2005.
